Sawyer Rose Grows: 5 Months

Here's the thing...

Sawyer will be 6 months old in just 2 weeks, but i'm just getting around to publishing his 5 month update! See this post for 99 excuses as to why ;)

Without a doubt, life with our little one just keeps getting better and better and better. He is so full of personality and cuteness lately, I can hardly take it! I'm sure you mamas know what i'm talking about. It's like every day is a new discovery for his little brain. No matter what he is doing, it's almost like I can see his brain growing by the second.

He does this thing where he will open and close his hands and stare at them as if something miraculous is happening. It cracks us up! He is a giant drool-bucket who constantly has his fingers in his mouth and chews on just about anything. He is obsessed with sucking in his bottom lip and it is just the cutest thing i've ever seen.

We had so many firsts this month. He sat in his high chair for the first time, celebrated his first Easter, he tried his first food (avocado! which he can't get enough of) and well.. he moved for the first time! Moving with an infant is no joke, but he really is a chilled out little guy and pretty much just rolls with it.

He is starting to lose some of that gorgeous hair he was born with. It makes me sad! He still has quite a bit,  but its getting thinner by the day. Sawyer graduated to the pack n play in our room from his rock n play. He was just getting too big for the rock n play so we moved him into a more spacious solution until we're ready to move him downstairs into his nursery.

Speaking of sleep, we had the worst week since he was born...i'm not even exaggerating. Every hour on the hour this baby would wake up and Jake and I were dying! We called him the tiny terrorist because he was using sleep deprivation as torture. And that's exactly what it was, torture!! But miraculously, Sunday night, he slept through the ENTIRE night. 8:00-6:30, people. I woke up around 2:30 wondering why the heck he was still asleep, terrified that he had stopped breathing. But he was just snoozing away! I then proceeded to wake up every single hour to make sure he was alive. But it was still miraculous rest I tell you ;)

I'm not sure on his height/weight, but from our bathroom scale at home baby boy  is a whopping 20 pounds. I've said it before- he is a CHUNK! But all those rolls just mean more for me to love ;)

He is still exclusively breastfed, and we're planning on introducing solids here in the next few weeks! We let him taste avocado and he got a full bowl of it once last week, but we're not really going crazy with it because it's a lot of mess and a lot of work! He is still pretty much just interested in milk so we'll follow his cues and introduce things as he is ready. It's really fun, though! I love watching him discover new tastes and textures. We're not looking forward to the diapers that come along with solid food...but I guess you have to give and take ;)

Things I don't want to forget this month:

His giant gummy smile when he see's us for the first time in the morning-it's enough to make your heart skip a beat!
How he kicks and kicks and kicks in the bathtub
When he grabs his toes and tries to stuff them into his mouth
Well, how he tries to stuff everything into his mouth. It's so funny how he wants to taste everything for quality assurance ;)
His giant big brown eyes and those eyelashes that touch his eyebrows.
How big he looks in his highchair eating dinner with us
When he unlatches so he can give me a nice big smile and then get back to his meal
and best of all...his voice! He loves to hear himself and will just babble on forever, and I want to bottle up the noise forever.

He will still give mama the occasional nap on my chest, and it is food for my soul, I tell you. I'm headed back to 5 days of work per week and he will have 1 day a week at daycare pretty soon, and although i'm terrified of not having that extra day together, I know it will be really great for him to be around other little ones! Please tell me it's not as bad as it feels? I am trying so hard to be positive, but I know I won't even be able to do drop off in the morning because i'll quit my job on the spot and then we won't be able to pay our mortgage and we'll live in a cardboard box under the overpass. So yeah...Jake is going to take care of drop off.

Every month gets better and better with my baby. As each stage ends and new ones begin, I find myself wishing time would slow on down, while also looking forward to all that the next one brings. He is the best part of our lives! Thanks for following along.

Until Next Time,
