Our Dream Come True: The Rose Lakehouse!

I've got to begin this one 3 years ago. We were two kids who had just moved across the country to a state we probably couldn't locate on a map if you asked us to. (Thanks California public school system!)

My parents moved into a gorgeous fixer-upper on the Lake, and we were shackin' up in the basement while we searched for our first home. On our way back to our basement one day, we noticed an open house on the street and stopped in. Just for fun, really. We knew the house would be WAY outside of our price range, and we wouldn't need a house that size for years anyway.

Little did we know, this house would have the most special place in our hearts for years to come. We fell in love back then, and ever since, it's been our benchmark house. We said we HAD to live there one day, there was no other option. Our plan all along was to save our pennies, and slip a note into their mailbox one day saying this house was meant to be ours and whatever we had to do, we were meant to live there!

Okay, lets fast forward 3 years, countless projects, a wedding, a puppy, and a baby later, and it will take you to last Monday.

I was driving to pick up Sawyer from my mom & dads, and as I was pulling up, there was a realtor putting the "for sale" sign up on OUR HOUSE! I immediately called Jake, and pulled the car over to talk to the realtor.

On our way home that night, we called our realtor to run numbers, and got the preapproval from our amazing lender. Next thing you know, a photographer was at our house taking pictures, our house was listed, and 2 days later it was under contract. That same day, we made our offer on the dream home, and by 10 PM we were under contract on it...insane.

Our prayer all along was that if it was meant to be, that God would "make it happen by Monday!" And within one week, Monday to Monday, we went from no intentions to move, to selling our house, to buying our dream house. It was absolutely crazy how quickly it all went, but it just furthers our belief that it truly was meant to be!

So let's talk the house. It's giant, and as old as I am, so there is some work to be done. Truth be told, it's just going to be one big empty house for awhile as we save our pennies to furnish it, but we couldn't be more excited by the opportunity.

Oh, did I mention the view? Holy Moly, that view!!

When I daydream about our lives, raising our children, Christmas mornings and first days of school, it's always been in this house. It's like it has been ours since the first time we laid eyes on it, and it really, truly is a dream come true that in just a few short weeks (hopefully!) it actually will be.

We still need to survive inspection and appraisal for both properties before anything is set in stone, so please say a prayer that everything goes smoothly, and in 30 days we'll be moving into our new adventure!

The list of projects to do on this house is pages, pages! long. I'll give ya'll an empty home tour and our grand old list soon. :)

Thank you so much for following along this adventure, I can't wait to take you along every step.

Until Next Time,

  1. Literally tearing up reading this! I'm so excited for you guys!

My husband and I watched our dream subdivision be built from nothing but a dirt lot while we were in the throws of a bankruptcy and no light as far as we could see. We worked our butts off to get back in financial shape and when we signed our contract (on one of the very last lots in that location) it was one of the happiest days of our lives!!
